Landscape gardeners give GemLife the green thumbs up

GemLife Landscaping Manager Jaike Osborne

AT GEMLIFE OVER-50S LIFESTYLE RESORTS, OUR TEAM UNDERSTANDS THAT LANDSCAPING GOES BEYOND THE SURFACE.

Gardeners and landscapers are given a unique opportunity to give each resort its own identity and character, says Jaike Osborne, GemLife Landscaping Manager, Resort Operations.

“All GemLife resorts are slightly different to each other when it comes to their landscaping needs, and many feature local native plants from their own area. The overall aim, however, is to ensure our residents are happy with the gardens and landscaping we create,” he said.

GemLife’s landscaping team balances the requirement for attractive low-maintenance gardens with year-round interest while at the same time creating visually impressive statements for the resort entrance and major facilities such as the country clubs.

Jaike has been with GemLife for more than 12 months and has been largely involved with the landscaping at GemLife Rainbow Beach on the NSW Mid North Coast and GemLife Tweed Waters as well as preparations for both the flagship GemLife Gold Coast and GemLife Moreton Bay resorts.

“We are currently looking for more gardeners and landscapers to join our team because there is so much work on now and into the future, especially on the Gold and Sunshine coasts,” he said.

Jaike said the landscaping for the GemLife Gold Coast and GemLife Moreton Bay resorts will be outstanding, with much planning having gone into each site.

“The Gold Coast resort will set a new standard when it comes to its landscaping, which has been designed by a leading Brisbane architect. It will probably take about six months for everything to start to take shape after we have done all the plantings which will include major features such as cascading gardens over the balconies and the retaining walls of the multi-million-dollar Country Club.”

He said the entrance and tennis courts will also be heavily landscaped and there will be local native palms lining the boulevard.

“The plantings will blend through the entire five-star resort. It will be quite spectacular for sure,” he said.

Jaike said the entrances of GemLife resorts were often showpieces and he is looking forward to establishing a 1.3km fully landscaped entrance to the GemLife Moreton Bay resort which is modelled to reflect and intertwine with the spectacular natural environment which surrounds it.

GemLife Moreton Bay is an ecologically sensitive site and landscaping will involve a lot of work by our inhouse team, so we will need all hands on deck.”

New landscapers to work on each of the GemLife projects were encouraged to apply to join his team as soon as possible.

“Having an established skill set, good knowledge, at least three years of industry experience or a degree in horticulture would be ideal but we will look at all applicants and skill levels. We supply all the equipment (including small excavators, bobcats, and small tippers), work vehicles, tools, work boots and three shirts, and the role is basically 38 hours a week from Monday to Friday, usually from 6.30am to 2.36pm for full time employees. We also need casual staff.

“GemLife offers a great work environment, the work changes day by day and landscapers are based on one site. It’s a great job for anyone who enjoys working outdoors,” said Jaike.
