Express Yourself – Fuchsia garden inspires casual chic new look

living proof episode 6 fashion segment, Express Yourself

CHANGING YOUR FASHION STYLE IS NO EASY FEAT, BUT GEMLIFE HIGHFIELDS’ RESIDENT, CHRISTINE MALLET, WAS READY FOR A BRAND-NEW LOOK.

This month, Living Proof’s sixth segment of Express Yourself welcomed personal stylist, Angela Cleary, to the show. She converted Christine’s self-described sensible and conservative look into a highly fashionable, casual chic look, and Christine was pleasantly surprised with the results.

“I got the pinks and reds that I wanted. Even though the dress is a deeper tone than I would normally wear, I absolutely loved it! With all the beautiful pinks and darker tones, it’s just really pretty,” Christine said.

Angela wanted to make Christine feel at ease by working with her favourite floral colours. At 152cm, she likes to plan outfits ahead of time, yet often changes her mind at the last minute so a fashion makeover was something she was very excited about.

When we asked Angela about Christine’s new look, she said finding the perfect theme for every person is paramount, and Christine’s inspiration was staring at her directly from the garden.

“Chris mentioned she loves flowers, and when I looked out in her garden, I noticed she had these beautiful, bright fuchsias out there, so I picked that up in her look which made her very happy,” Angela said.

“Theming is so important with makeovers, and with Chris we went with the fuchsia lip, fuchsia in the drop earrings and also picked it as the main colour in her dress.”

Christine said the whole makeover experience was simply wonderful.

“I loved how I looked at the reveal. It was so exciting for me with all my friends there and I want to thank everyone who was involved,” she said.

“The whole team was fabulous, and it was such a big experience for me with lights, cameras and being treated like a star.”

An expert on styling for both corporate and media personalities, including Shelly Craft, Angela has helped several clients elevate their corporate image and ready them for events such as television guest spots, so giving Christine a brand-new look was something she really enjoyed.

“Christine was just lovely, and looking at her wardrobe, I don’t think the dress was so much out of her comfort zone. But what surprised her was the additions – the accessories like earrings and hair and makeup, which were not what she would normally do,” Angela said.

“That part elevated things for her, because she never wears long earrings, but they really popped the look and I’m just so glad she was happy with the finished result.”

Angela’s expertise really shone in this episode, so it’s no surprise her true passion lies in helping restyle women in their 40s and beyond.

“I feel there is a real niche in this demographic. I am in my late 40s, and have gone through changes, so I thought if I’m feeling like this, so many women are also going through it. That inspired me to help women start to feel good about themselves again.”

In this episode, Christine is featured in clothes from over-40s fashion label birdsnest.
