Josh and Rosemay in the gym

Getting stronger after shoulder injury

GEMLIFE MAROOCHY QUAYS RESIDENT ROSEMAY DUNN LOVES TO EXERCISE AND KEEP FIT, BUT A RECENT SHOULDER INJURY HAS SET HER BACK.

GemLife’s new Fitness and Lifestyle Coordinator, Josh Kristenson, put together a new training program to help ease her back into a gym routine.

“I haven’t been to the gym in the last six months because I hurt my shoulder, but all the pain is finally gone so I’m ready to start training again,” Rosemay said.

“I was going to the gym regularly and playing ten-pin bowling every second day with my husband, but I used and abused my shoulder and had to stop training.”

Rosemay has missed the gym workouts she used to do, so she was excited to hear that Josh could put a new fitness program together for her.

Josh was up for the challenge and created a workout for Rosemay that kept her injury in mind, while making it easy for her to get back into the swing of things.

“The trick is to go slow when returning to the gym so that you don’t overdo it and lose interest,” Josh said.

“Secondly, you need to be mindful of the injury you are still dealing with. That means no exercises that could jeopardise your full recovery, which is what I kept in mind for Rosemay’s workout plan.”

Josh worked with Rosemay to tailor a program that addressed her concerns, as well as provided her with a safe and effective workout, suitable for her injury type.

“We looked at some rotator cuff movements, since that was Rosemay’s limiting weakness and potentially caused the injury in the first place,” Josh said.

“After making sure she was feeling good and nothing was causing her any more pain, we went into a full body workout and checked form on the machine bench press, banded rows, body weight squats, glute bridges and lat pulldowns.”

Rosemay didn’t experience any pain while doing her new workout program with Josh, and said she is excited to continue her fitness recovery journey.

“I’m really looking forward to getting fitter again and implementing what I’ve learnt, plus using the program Josh put together for me to build more strength,” Rosemay said.

“I am so glad I met Josh. The training session went so well and was exactly what I needed to get back into my fitness regime.”
