DOGS ACCOMPANYING THEIR OWNERS ARE A COMMON SIGHT AT GEMLIFE, BUT BEHIND CLOSED DOORS, CATS ARE ALSO LIVING THE BEST OF THEIR NINE LIVES.

We speak to two homeowners who let the cat out of the bag when it comes to how much their feline friends are enjoying GemLife resorts.

Deborah and Dougie

LIFE IS THE CAT’S WHISKERS FOR DOUGIE, THE SEVEN-YEAR-OLD BURMESE WHO LIVES WITH HIS OWNER DEBORAH BAKER AT GEMLIFE PALMWOODS.

“He’s sitting on my lap right now,” laughs Deborah. “He’s my best friend and a lot of fun. He always seems to know when you’re feeling up or down and is always great company.”

Burmese are lovely sociable cats who have a reputation for being friendly and showing a curiosity about their surroundings.

“Dougie is very much like that,” says Deborah. “While his favourite occupation is sleeping, he also likes to spend a bit of time looking out under the gate at the workmen to see what they’re up to.

“And if anyone comes to the door, he’s there to greet them. In fact, I’m sure that he thinks visitors are there to see him and not me! No one enters before they have the opportunity to rub his belly.”

Apart from watching the activity going on at the growing GemLife Palmwoods resort, Deborah reports that Dougie’s favourite activities are eating and sleeping.

“A couple of people here who met Dougie have called him Garfield, the cartoon cat who likes lasagne because, I have to admit, he is a little fat,” she said.

GemLife Palmwoods ideally suits both Dougie and Barbara.

“He just loves sleeping on a chair in the alfresco area and watches the occasional bird that goes by. In fact, they’re more likely to harass him!” she said.

“As for myself, I’m working more than I thought I would, including some weekends, but I’m looking forward to the opening of the Country Club and getting more involved in the social activities.”
