Midwife gets a makeover and husband approves

GEMLIFE PALMWOODS RESIDENT ELLEN HIPWELL GETS A GREASED LIGHTNIN’ FASHION MAKEOVER AND DRESSES TO IMPRESS HER ‘DANNY’.

In this final episode of Living Proof Express Yourself for 2023, fashion stylist, fashion-brand creator and host of the segment Angela Cleary, set out to give retired midwife Ellen an upbeat look to help impress her husband, and succeeds. With 30 years under her belt as a midwife, Ellen is no stranger to a fast-paced lifestyle and is used to doing things for others. Ellen, like most women, dislikes aging and wants to try a new style that is trendy and fashionable that suits her age and brings vitality to her style without looking like she’s overdoing it.

“As you age and your body changes, it’s hard to find any sort of fashion you like,” she says. “There’s lots of things for teenagers and there’s lots of things for older women, but sometimes you want something that’s a little different and it’s very difficult to find.

“I gravitate to the same colours, avoiding brights like oranges and tend to go more towards muted colours that hide me, and I want to change that.”

Angela decides to go with a style that will give Ellen more vibrance and a bit more confidence with a modern and edgy look that accentuates her features to help her embrace the woman she is.

“As women we often wear many hats and take on the role as carer, meaning we sometimes lose our sense of style, resorting back to our creature comfort clothing,” Angela says. “To build the perfect wardrobe, I often advise to have three key items – great black pants or jeans that fit well, a classic shirt in white or a block colour you love, and a structured handbag.”

Angela incorporates these three items into Ellen’s new look, succeeding in making her feel like a new woman for her big reveal.

“A classic oversized shirt can be styled many ways and is a wardrobe must-have, plus the pant leather look is an absolute hero piece,” Angela says. “It fits like a glove and looks on trend but is still age appropriate. I think she looks fantastic and the final key item to complete her look is a black structured bag which is a forever piece and always adds style to any look.

“I’ve also used smoky eyeshadow on her that adds mystery and a pop lip, which is an ultra-hydrating non-sticky lip gloss that provides a pop of colour and sensational shine to enhance Ellen’s lips, adding fun to her makeover.”

Ellen looks fabulous in her crisp white shirt and black tight-fitting pants and her make-up is sensational, with husband George approving her entire new look.

“I loved my makeover, absolutely loved it,” Ellen says. “Everybody that knows me and was there looked at me and went, ‘oh my goodness, we don’t recognise you’. I was absolutely thrilled as I didn’t expect to go down this path, but it was fantastic.

“My husband couldn’t believe it. Someone said to me ‘you look like Sandy from Grease’, and George says, ‘you’re the one that I want’,” Ellen says smiling. “After we finished filming, he went inside, put on a white shirt and his leather jacket and had a picture taken with me. He was really thrilled with how I looked; it was just perfect.”
