PREPARATION IS THE KEY TO A GREAT HOLIDAY, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE PLANNING A ROADTRIP IN ONE OF THE EXPLORE BY GEMLIFE MOTORHOMES, ACCORDING TO EXPLORE BY GEMLIFE COORDINATOR ANDREW DOVER.

Andrew is becoming a familiar face to many GemLife homeowners who have hired a motorhome, with first-time users treated to a special induction to familiarise them with the systems, tech and size of the vehicle as well as all its numerous modern conveniences.

“The induction is a great opportunity for hirers to have all their questions answered. It can take about an hour and is well worth the time because it puts people at ease before they head off to explore this magnificent country of ours,” said Andrew.

To ensure your next adventure in an Explore by GemLife motorhome is smooth sailing every step of the way, read on for Andrew’s top tips for trouble-free roadtripping.

HANDY TIPS

Motorhome

  • Be sure to familiarise yourself with the RV and its functions pre-travel to create a hassle-free trip.
  • Be aware of all specifications, safety precautions and equipment on board and enter all important contacts into your phone before you go.
  • Knowing the motorhome’s dimensions and necessities will arm you with the ability to plan a smoother, more enjoyable experience.

Travel requirements

  • Travelling light and being conservative with water use is very beneficial for lengthy trips covering long distances.
  • Only fill the water tank completely if you know the next destination does not have potable water. Whenever possible, empty grey water before driving to lessen the weight of the vehicle.
  • Pack minimal clothing and keep it appropriate for the season.
  • Easy and pre-prepared meals are recommended for both space and time.
  • Pre-portion pantry items for the number of days needed in zip-lock bags and well-sealed containers.
  • Store all opened spillable foodstuffs in robust travel-safe containers.
  • Take advantage of the amenities within the grounds at RV park-stays to reset the RV and clean clothes.

On the road

  • Pre-planning is key. Investigate your travel route ahead of time for foreseeable requirements e.g., supermarkets for access and parking, fuel stations with AdBlue on pump, potable water fill and dump points.
  • Always stay up to date with road conditions.
  • The Explore by GemLife motorhomes are quite capable of off-grid stays for a few nights before requiring more water, toilet emptying and power recharging.
  • Incorporating ‘free camp’ stays at local showgrounds, council campgrounds and accessible National Parks will offset costs on lengthy hires at more expensive privately-owned caravan and RV grounds.
