GEMLIFE RAINBOW BEACH IS HELPING THE SURF LIFE SAVERS SAVE LIVES.

Beachgoers at Bonny Hills will be even safer this summer thanks to a timely donation by GemLife Rainbow Beach to the Wauchope-Bonny Hills Surf Life Saving Club.

The resort has funded the purchase of a portable defibrillator that will accompany lifesavers in their ATV or on their surf boats for beach patrols from Bonny Hills to Middle Rock.

“We’re really grateful to GemLife Rainbow Beach for this donation because when it comes to heart attacks, every second counts,” said Daniel Slater, director of finance at the surf club.

“Having a portable defibrillator on hand means we can do more to save lives of people on the beach this summer.”

Wauchope-Bonny Hills Surf Life Saving Club, founded in 1958, is home to between 130 to 150 active members and features the popular local watering spot, Beaches at Bonny Hills which has stunning views.’

On hand to make the donation was Craig Dixon, Gemlife’s Rainbow Beach Sales Manager. “I’ve known Daniel for a while, living in the same town, so when he asked if we were able to fund a defibrillator, we were only too delighted to jump on board.

“The surf life savers do amazing work and we’re really fortunate to have such an active club at Bonny Hills. I know our residents will take full advantage of the beautiful beaches and it’s so important to all of us that we are active members of our local community.”

HOW DOES AN AED WORK?

More than 30,000 Australians suffer a heart attack each year. An Automatic External Defibrillator, in association with CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), greatly increases the chance of survival. It works by instantly analysing a patient’s heart rhythm and automatically delivers an electric shock when needed to help restore normal rhythm.
