Firing up fitness - Experienced personal trainer joins the GemLife team

GEMLIFE IS EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THE APPOINTMENT OF A FITNESS AND LIFESTYLE COACH TO HELP GEMLIFE HOMEOWNERS ACHIEVE THEIR WELLNESS GOALS.

Over the coming months residents are likely to see Josh Kristenson, a highly skilled and dedicated fitness professional, around GemLife’s resorts to check over the gyms and develop programs to help residents make the most of the great facilities as well as achieve their own personal fitness goals.

One of the things GemLife’s new Health and Lifestyle Coordinator is looking to do is explode some myths about exercise and fitness – including one that he fell into when he was younger.

“I loved working out at the gym and building up muscle. In fact, I competed in body building, and in 2018 I made a clean sweep of the Queensland competitions,” he said.

“And while I was very happy with that, I also knew that building muscle was only one part of being fit. I saw guys who were very bulked up who would injure themselves running, or not have a lot of cardio-vascular stamina, so I started becoming involved with CrossFit. I enjoyed being able to do a wide range of exercise and movement – which is particularly important to me now that I have a young son to chase after!”

Josh, a qualified personal trainer, is keen to let people know that it is never too late to begin improving one’s fitness, it doesn’t have to take arduous hours in the gym – and it can even be fun!

“The exercise you’re going to do and get the most out of is the exercise you like to do,” he said.

“It might be walking, dancing, playing golf. Whatever it is, just keep doing it and keep showing up, doing just a little bit more or going a little bit longer than you did before. Consistency is key.

“Start slow,” he advises. “If you go too hard and too fast into an exercise routine, you risk injury, or at the very least feel very sore the next day and won’t feel like coming back again. The most important thing is showing up.”

Josh is currently collating responses from a recently issued survey to get a better understanding from all GemLife homeowners and contract holders about what they’re looking for – whether it be fitness programs, advice on exercise following surgery, or alternative types of exercise to accommodate physical limitations.

“I’m looking forward to meeting homeowners and sharing some of our exciting plans over the coming months,” he said.
