GEMLIFE IS PROUD TO SPONSOR RUN THE ROCK ONCE AGAIN FOR 2024. THE POPULAR ANNUAL EVENT TAKES PLACE AT PICTURESQUE HANGING ROCK IN THE MACDEON RANGES, VICTORIA, CLOSE TO GEMLIFE WOODEND, ON SATURDAY, 20 APRIL 2024.

GemLife Health and Lifestyle Coordinator, Josh Kristenson, offers some helpful tips for getting the best out of this event, no matter whether you’re planning to run or walk, are an old-hand, or a beginner.

Assess your fitness

Be honest about your current level of fitness. Consult your doctor for a check-up, especially if new to running, for advice on safe training intensity and any precautions necessary.

Start slow and steady

Don’t jump into intense training suddenly. Begin with manageable distances and frequencies, gradually increasing duration and intensity over weeks. Remember, consistency is key – do not push your limits too early.

Train smart, not hard

Incorporate a variety of training methods like interval training, tempo runs, and long, slow runs. Include strength training two to three times a week to build endurance and prevent injuries.

Don’t forget rest days – your body needs them to recover and adapt. It’s also important to train in the environment. Road or treadmill running will not prepare you for the terrain of Run The Rock, so make the time to familiarise yourself with the course ahead of time.

Fuel your body

Proper nutrition is crucial for performance and recovery. Focus on whole foods, fruits, vegetables, and lean protein. Stay hydrated throughout your training and race day. Using hydrating drinks and gels can be a great way to have energy throughout the race.

Gear up wisely

Invest in comfortable, well-fitting shoes appropriate for the terrain. Wear breathable clothing for moisture management and adjust for weather conditions. Don’t forget sunscreen and a hat, especially for longer distances.

Join the GemLife community

The beauty of GemLife is its supportive community. Find fellow homeowners interested in running and form a training group. Encourage and motivate each other, making the journey more enjoyable and social.

Embrace the fun!

Remember, Run The Rock is about self-challenge and enjoying the scenic beauty of the location. Focus on progress, not perfection, and most importantly, have fun. Remember, age is just a number, and achieving your running goals is a true testament to your dedication.

Now, go out there and chase that finish line!
