Sustainable building
We aim to use recycled materials wherever possible and strive for solutions that deliver healthy and efficient homes. As part of our commitment to sustainability best practices, we work with peak industry bodies to align with appropriate ratings tools, giving independent verification of our performance. Our communities are landscaped to encourage biodiversity, maximise greenspace and minimise urban ‘heat islands’, and to integrate with the natural environment.
Social community
We believe in the creation of place with our homeowners central to everything we do. We build beautiful homes with luxurious facilities that encourage the creation of social networks and friendships to foster emotional and mental wellbeing along with opportunities to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle. As a result, our residents choose to be involved in other areas of our sustainability program on site, including:
- Community vegetable gardens – GemLife's community vegetable gardens are a community-led initiative. The gardens are a focal point for residents to relax and engage with one another as well as grow fresh produce.
- Fruit tree plantings – In addition to community vegetable gardens, GemLife has invested in planting fruit trees. The residents enjoy the fruit, and the flowers attract bees.
- Honeybee hives – GemLife resorts have beautiful gardens with bee-attracting flowers, so we are taking that one step further by starting an Australian native honeybee hive pilot program. The health of our nation's bee population has a direct relationship to the success of our agriculture and sustainability of our native flora.
- Central composting – To reduce the demand on council waste services and reduce landfill, we provide a central composting facility in all our resorts to turn green waste into products to use in the gardens.
