Living life to the fullest – Couple spoilt for choice at new country club

Living life to the fullest

When Ann and Harry Campbell moved to GemLife Woodend in December last year they were captivated by its magnificent Country Club.

“Oh my goodness! Once we saw the clubhouse we were hooked. It is amazing. My son said it was like walking into the dining room of a luxury cruise ship,” Ann said.

Since opening its doors at the end of 2020, the $11 million premium country club has become the social and recreational hub at GemLife’s over-50s lifestyle resort in the Macedon Ranges.

This is particularly so for former teacher Harry and social worker Ann.

“The lakeside country club is where everyone meets for regular drinks, crafts, sports, movies and so much more,” Ann said.

“We are there almost daily enjoying the first-class facilities which have to be seen to be believed.

“Harry uses the golf simulator and the spa, and I enjoy aqua aerobics and Pilates and as an avid reader, I am frequently borrowing new books from the club’s library. Our grandchildren just love the pool and ten-pin bowling when they come to visit too. We also catch up with neighbours and friends each Thursday for a drink at the bar.

“There is just so much to do at this beautiful country club which also includes a luxury cinema, art and craft studio, games and entertainment room, bocce court, sauna, gymnasium and a wine room. The lights at night are just spectacular too.”

Married for 47 years, the couple are Macedon locals and believe by moving into GemLife Woodend they have the best of both worlds in having free access to a wide range of great facilities while also being close to family and friends.

“Another great thing is that this is not a retirement village. You only have to be 50 to move in and it is all about being active and healthy.”

Ann said the resort’s over-50s lifestyle suited both singles and couples and while it catered for many different sports and interests, there was no pressure on people to take part.

“However, we enjoy the company of others and one of our favourite things to do each week is to get together with fellow residents for a drink in the luxurious setting of the country club. It makes us feel truly special and spoilt.”
