Who’s Who In-house
At GemLife, we’re a community inside and out. We love getting to know our resident stakeholders, so here’s an opportunity for you to get to know us better too. A family-run business through and through, GemLife would be nowhere without its staff members and we like to make sure they know that they’re appreciated. Here you can learn a little about their backgrounds and why they love working for GemLife.
Carly Edmondson is a member of our outstanding graphic design team who create the sales and marketing collateral in the GemLife portfolio. As a Junior Graphic Designer, Carly administers the process and completion of the GemLife brochures, pamphlets and other styles of advertisement that you see around you.
How did you get into graphic design?
CE: Ever since I was a child I have always enjoyed being creative, so I was determined to find a career path that would highlight my creative flare. It took me a while to find this path but after trying out two other areas of study, environmental town planning and architecture, I was fortunate enough to ignite my passion for the graphic design industry.
What brought you to GemLife?
CE: I was fresh out of university and on the hunt for a position that would not restrict me in my creative ethos. I applied for a Junior Graphic Design position at GemLife around three months ago and I was so excited when I was told I had been successful! I was very impressed and thankful that GemLife would take someone with minimal experience in the industry, it really shows that they were willing to give me a go and I very much understand the rarity of it and appreciate GemLife for this opportunity.
What inspires you?
CE: My inspiration as cliché as it sounds would be my team mates. I feel motivated by how hard they work and they push me to think outside the box in not only my working life, but my personal life too. In a more practical sense, I do find a tonne of inspiration scrolling through Pinterest and Behance- I can look through those photos for hours!
What do you do in your spare time?
CE: Well, I could probably lie and say I enjoy reading and visiting museums but I would much rather binge watch Netflix and eat junk food with a bunch of friends. I do however garden (or attempt to) when I have the chance but I have not quite grasped the knack yet, they keep wilting. Luckily my Dad comes to water and fertilizer them when I forget-oops!
What do you most enjoy about your role?
CE: I love that my job allows me to learn new things every single day, which means I never get tired of it. I really enjoy creating collateral on the floor plans and facades, it’s where I get inspiration for my own future homes. My favourite one so far would have to be the Palm III design with the open plan living design with askillion roof.
Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?
CE: I would love to own a home in the next ten years and be in charge of all the internal design aspect. In regard to work, I hope to be working with a team like I have now as having a friendly working environment makes getting up for work everyday so much easier!
