Love is in the air at GemLife Maroochy Quays, just ask Reilly the rescued chihuahua and Maltese Shih Tzus, Lily and Kyra.
Bill and Faye Perdikis adopted Reilly two years ago and said he didn’t typically enjoy the company of other dogs but it was love at first sight when he met Lily and Kyra.
“While our house was being built at the resort we were staying at a caravan park. Three caravans down were Tony and Barbara ‘Babs’ Rossini who were also moving to GemLife.
That’s where Reilly met their girls, Lily and Kyra, and instantly fell in love,” said Faye.
“It’s a true love story, Reilly is a very lucky boy,” said Babs. Since moving into their new resort homes, the bond between the dogs and their owners has only grown stronger.
“They have regular play dates and we’ll catch-up at a dog park or at each other’s homes, and we all go to Sunday drinks together,” said Babs.
“Lily and Kyra have made other doggy acquaintances at the resort but they only have eyes for Reilly. There’s no jealousy between them, they share him equally,” she said.
Reilly had a rough start to life, fighting for his life in foster care after being discovered sick and alone on the streets of Brisbane.
“I was looking for a small rescue dog when I found Reilly on the Safe Haven Animal Rescue website,” said Faye.
“He was absolutely terrified of people. It took me an hour and a half to be able to touch him when I went to bring him home. He has come so far and now he loves socialising with people and wants to be petted by everyone.”
From rags to riches, Reilly is now living life to the fullest with his forever family in their brand-new resort home.
While Faye and Bill were already experienced dog owners, for Babs and Tony, the experience of owning dogs was a first.
“We had always been cat owners, but a few years back our son got two beautiful little Maltese Shih Tzus and we fell in love with them and decided we needed to have our own,” said Babs.
Six months later they brought home Lily and Kyra.
“We knew right away that we wanted two girls and we wanted them to be white and it took months to find them. They are super smart and look like two little cotton balls!”
At first, Lily and Kyra were apprehensive about their new home, but with a little time and comfort from Reilly, they quickly grew to love life at the resort.
“Now that we are settled, they love it and they particularly enjoy seeing Reilly and visiting the beach to go for a swim,” said Babs.
