Sinking a hole-in-one on your birthday is an experience few could ever forget and that is exactly what GemLife Bribie Island social golf club member Paul Hill accomplished on his big day on 20 November 2020.

“I joined the ranks of Pat Helms who had a holein- one in our club’s first game when it teed off in August 2019. With me, it happened in the year of COVID and only took me 44 years to achieve,” said Paul.

Keeping fit and active is a shared goal of many residents who enjoy getting together on a regular basis for a hit of golf.

As a result, during the past 18 months the club has grown from five members to 48 social golfers, all residents at GemLife Bribie Island.

Games are played every first and third Friday of the month at nearby Bribie Island Golf Club at Woorim where 28 of the golfers are also members.

“Although it is an 18-hole golf course we play a nine-hole competition because it only takes about half the time, which is particularly important during the hotter months,” said Paul.

It is no surprise that the putting green and virtual golf simulator at GemLife Bribie Island has also proven extremely popular with social golf club members and others who are trying to keep fit.

“I had a knee replacement and used the simulator regularly for about four months to help me get back into condition for a return to golf,” said Paul, a retired plumber and roofer.
