Lesli and Rob Bencze moved into GemLife Highfields at the beginning of October and are over the moon with their new home.
Both are still working, but as empty-nesters they wanted a low-maintenance home that would let them embrace their dream to travel.
“We knew we were ready to move on from our home in Elbow Valley,” said Lesli, “but we weren’t sure where we wanted to move to.
“We had renovated three homes before and didn’t want to do it again. We were ready to downsize, but we didn’t want a tiny apartment.”
The planets aligned one day when Lesli and Rob came to visit her mother, who is also a resident at Highfields and got talking to Rachael Benham, the Highfields Sales Manager.
“Rachael suggested we look at some of the new display homes,” said Lesli, “and we were hooked straight away. The designs were lovely and spacious, but still low maintenance.
“The location is convenient for us to continue working, it’s great to be so close to mum, and we were both so excited about the incredible facilities that will be available when the Country Club is completed. We both want to stay active and fit so we can enjoy our adventure holidays.”
Some of the couple’s friends were surprised by the move, thinking they were too young for a ‘retirement village’.
“Their opinion soon changes when they see where we live,” laughed Lesli. “This is not a retirement village. For us, as empty-nesters with the travel bug, it is absolutely perfect.”
Lesli and Rob are certainly making the most of their new lifestyle, targeting two or three overseas trips each year. They both love wildlife adventure holidays, and so far this year they have seen rare monkeys in Vietnam and grizzly bears in Alaska!
“Our next trip is to Sichuan in China,” said Lesli. “The Tibetan Plateau promises some beautiful scenery and wildlife. We would love to see some giant Pandas in their natural habitat!”
