Leading the way - New residents say it’s a dream come true!

RUSS AND LYN HOWARD MADE IT INTO THEIR STUNNING NEW HOME AT GEMLIFE TWEED WATERS JUST IN TIME TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS AND THE START OF A BRAND-NEW YEAR, AND THEY COULD NOT BE HAPPIER.

“Being among the first three couples to move in is very exciting and gives us a chance to welcome everyone else as they arrive. We are so looking forward to what’s ahead … new neighbours, the fabulous facilities in the Country Club when it’s finished and, being very outgoing, the social
aspect of living in an over-50s lifestyle resort right on the water. It’s like a dream come true,” said Lyn.

Still unpacking, Lyn said the home was everything they had expected, and even a bit more.

“We have built and renovated a few homes and are sticklers for quality. I took notice of the finishes and they have done a spot-on job,” she said.

Married 56 years on the week they moved in, the couple have three sons and ten grandchildren, including a set of triplets, who all live in Sydney.

“We lived in Sydney until moving up here about six years ago to retire. I had previously been a bank manager and Russ was in car sales, jobs we had for over 30 years,” said Lyn.

As relative newcomers to the area, Russ and Lyn love the way GemLife has given them an opportunity to get to know future friends and neighbours by inviting them to various GemLife Tweed Waters functions, even before they moved in.

“We’ve developed so many wonderful friendships and it has made us feel part of the community from day one,” said Russ, who has already teamed up with a new neighbour to play golf at the Chinderah Golf Club.

Lyn doesn’t even mind the construction activity that is going on around them.

“Yes, it’s a bit of a construction zone but you put up with it because you know it won’t be that long before it’s all going to come together and give us everything we’ve ever wanted. And we are not alone, with more residents moving in all the time. We might have to have a street party to celebrate!” said Lyn.

The happy-go-lucky couple admit they are very excited about what lays ahead for homeowners at the boutique GemLife Tweed Waters over-50s lifestyle resort, especially the Country Club which is steadily taking shape.

“We are eager to try a lot of things such as ten-pin bowling and the golf simulator,” said Russ, who is also a keen walker who covers up to four kilometres twice a week.

Lyn admits she is not fond of exercising but enjoys crafts like patchwork and quilting, reading, playing Scrabble and restoring furniture.

The couple say 2024 is going to be a good year as their GemLife community continues to welcome more homeowners and their friendship circle grows further. They also plan more travel which both admit is a huge passion.
