History in the making – Explore by GemLife a big hit with seasoned travellers

Explore by GemLife a big hit with seasoned travellers

When seasoned travellers Joy Madex and Warren Gilliland jumped into the Explore by GemLife motorhome and set off on an eight-day 886km trip around Victoria, they made history as the first GemLife Woodend residents to take the eye-catching motorhome out on the road.

They described it as an experience of a lifetime which they would gladly do again anytime.

“You could say we are constant travellers having spent up to eight months on the road before moving into the resort, but during the past 13 years it has been in a caravan.

Explore by GemLife a big hit with seasoned travellers“We have never travelled in a motorhome before and didn’t really know what to expect but we have to say, we were pleasantly surprised and delighted,” said Joy.

The couple, who was excited to be the first at the over-50s lifestyle resort to hire the new Explore by GemLife motorhome, headed straight for Bridgewater on the first day where they took the opportunity to dine on award-winning vanilla slices.

“We stopped at the Bridgewater Bakehouse which won the top award for having Australia’s best vanilla slice this year, and I have to say, we were not disappointed. It was just delicious!” said Joy.

Bakeries are often the first stop in each town the couple visit with both having a love for fresh bread, cakes, coffee, and milkshakes.

Their next stop was Echuca for lunch before finding a caravan park at Kyabram to spend the next three nights.

“It was raining heavily, but just to sit and relax for a few days and enjoy the company of other travellers was nice and gave us a chance to really enjoy the motorhome,” said Joy.

The push-button convenience of most things in the motorhome including the bed and the awning was appreciated.

“We are not used to modern technology and all these gadgets, but we mastered it pretty quickly, and felt like experts by the time we got home,” said Warren.

“The bed was very comfortable, all the windows opened up so the air could flow through, it was bright inside and we even had a hot day when we cooled down instantly by using the air conditioner.”

Their final stop was Lockington where they caught up with an old army buddy of Warren’s who was camping in a caravan with his wife.

“They couldn’t believe it when we rolled up and were gobsmacked at the colours, design and artwork of the motorhome, and greeted us with the comment `wow, you won’t lose that’ which made us all laugh,” said Joy.

“There were many people we met who were so impressed with our motorhome. Even one fellow from Mareeba in Queensland who told us he had camped a few doors down from us up there but, of course, he must have seen one of the other Explore by GemLife motorhomes, because we have never been to Mareeba.”

So, after arriving home safely with a wad of photographs of their journey, what did our GemLife Woodend couple think?

“It didn’t disappoint … it’s easy to drive, easy to set up, and has all the comforts of home. We will definitely hire it again,” said Joy.
