GemLife Highfields residents Angus and Vicki Lane enjoyed a memorable trip to the Darling Downs Zoo with their grandchildren Holly, Sophie and Charlie, making the most out of the prize they earned as the winner of GemLife’s Grandparents Day Awards 2019 – Best Grandparents.
“We had a wonderful time at the zoo and particularly the Marmoset Encounter with our grandchildren and their parents Scott and Margaret, who also came with us. Thank you GemLife for the prize,” said Vicki.
The gang arrived at the zoo bright and early at 9:00 am and started the day off by walking around the zoo and feeding as many animals as they could.
“The grandkids were a bit timid about putting their hands in the pens to feed the animals at first, but then they really enjoyed it,” she said.
“We fed wallabies, and zebras, who were very gentle like horses, we also nursed a baby crocodile and fed an emu who bit by thumb!”
After feeding the animals they headed to the Marmoset Encounter which was a highlight of the day.
“They are so tiny and very friendly, the children loved them jumping on their heads and climbing all around. The Marmosets liked to watch themselves on phone screens,” said Vicki.
At the end of their trip, the family was visited by the owners of the zoo, Stephanie and Steve, who gave them all tickets to come back and visit the Marmoset Encounter for a second time.
“Everyone was happy with the day. It was a day to remember,” said Vicki.
The first annual GemLife Grandparents Day Awards were held 2019 and saw dozens of grandchildren of GemLife residents across all resorts nominating their grandies nominated for Best Grandfather, Best Grandmother or Best Grandparents. Award winners each received a tailored Ultimate Family Experience.
