Our GemLife Highfields’ residents banded together on the weekend to support Queensland’s fire and drought victims, donating a van-full of supplies to local non-profit group, Purple Dove.

The community generously contributed non-perishable food and toiletries with the donated goods being squeezed from floor to roof inside the group’s van.

GemLife Highfields’ resort managers, Rick & Cheryl Cook, said the representatives of Purple Dove, Ian and Chris Robins were blown away by the residents’ generosity.

“Every inch inside the twin cab was filled to the roof and we even had to pack some in the box-trailer behind,” added Cheryl.

“We had decided earlier in the week to help out fire and drought victims and within four days our residents had collected a huge number of goodies.”

The group observed a minute’s silence to remember those whose lives have been devastated by fire and drought.

Purple Dove is based in Toowoomba.
