Toni Farrell and JadeFreedom, fun and new adventures were top priority for Toni Farrell, 65, when she and husband Andrew fast-forwarded plans to downsize, moving into GemLife Bribie Island’s over-50s resort on the Sunshine Coast.

Last year, after facing a series of traumatic events in the lives of family and friends within a very short period of time, Toni’s world-view shifted dramatically.

“I decided I want to live life now. I want to have a life, not just work and pay bills,” she said.

Transformed through experience and clear-eyed about her future, the Farrells accelerated long-term retirement plans. The couple looked at many properties in Queensland and New South Wales before settling on GemLife Bribie Island’s over-50s lifestyle resort.

“GemLife Bribie Island is beautiful. I love the waterfront location and the resort is stunning – it has everything,” she said.

Mrs Farrell said she loved the surprised reactions of friends and family members when showing them the community for the first time.

“A good friend of mine who has great taste was stunned at the quality, beautiful design and presentation. Her words were ‘They’ve not overlooked a single thing’,” she said.

“Retirement living today isn’t what people think. My new home is beautiful, it’s finished superbly, and I live in a real resort. It’s perfect.”

An avid dressmaker and craft enthusiast, with decades of experience in the retail and fashion industries, Mrs Farrell has no regrets about leaving full-time work.

With an infectious sense of fun and spirit of generosity, she’s busier than ever, throwing herself whole-heartedly in neighbourhood events. She recently put her sewing skills to good use, creating a costume for herself and dog Jade for a pet fashion show at the launch of the resort’s recreational precinct – winning first prize.

“The people here are amazing and there is a strong sense of community. It’s super social and fun,” she said.

An active person, Toni has joined an exercise group, aqua aerobics and dance classes, and enjoys ten pin bowling at GemLife Bribie Island’s multimillion-dollar award-winning country club, overlooking Lake Dux.

At the beginning of a whole new life, Mrs Farrell is ready for adventures, friendship and fun.

“Life is what you make it!,” she said.

GemLife has six over-50s resorts across Australia, including Bribie Island, Maroochydore, Pacific Paradise, Highfields, Lennox Head and Woodend.
