GemLife Woodend resident John Burns made the move from the big city to GemLife’s over-50s lifestyle resort in the country earlier this year to pursue a more active and social lifestyle.
John, a Melbourne local, decided to make the move to GemLife Woodend to escape the crowding of the city and the hassle of a big home.
“I lived in South East Melbourne and I got sick and tired of how crowded it was, I couldn’t even park in front of my own house,” he said.
“My old house was 37 years old and my house here is only 10 months old, so it’s a lot less work and has a lot more advantages, plus I’m out of the city traffic but I’m still just a train ride away.”
John is making the most of his new resort lifestyle, keeping active and social by golfing, playing lawn bowls, attending local shows and events as well as joining the Kyneton Horse Racing club.
“That’s the advantage of living in a lifestyle resort, everyone here is very friendly and living at GemLife means everything I like is just a hop, skip and a jump away,” he said.
John has become a member of the Gisborne Golf Club, where he regularly participates in tournaments and has recently won the Gisborne Golf Club’s Midweek Monthly Trophy for the month of January.
“Golf is something I’ve always enjoyed, it’s good for exercise and relaxation and you also get to meet some nice people,” he said.
John is looking forward to the completion of the country club later this year and is eager to try out the new facilities including the golf simulator.
