When you’re based in Highfields, you don’t need to travel far to take in some of Australia’s most breathtaking natural scenery.
Nestled in the midst of national parks, reserves and even a handful of beautiful lakes, the area is practically begging to be explored!
Nature Walks
If you want to explore the natural beauty of the Highfields area, we recommend considering some easy nature walks.
We all know that walking is a great fitness activity for people of all fitness levels and abilities. Pair those benefits with the soul-refreshing effects of time spent in nature, and it’s clear that exploring the area on foot is a great way to look after your body and your soul.
Walk Smart
Everyone has different fitness levels and different degrees of bushwalking experience, so it’s important that you choose walks that are suitable for you.
If you’ve just started walking for fitness or you’ve recently endured a back, hip, foot, leg, ankle or knee injury, you’re going to want to give the more rigorous trails a miss.
It’s also important that you take appropriate precautions when you’re out and about. Always bring extra food and water, and consider bringing a jacket even in the warmer months. You should also bring your phone. And whether you’re going solo or going with other people, it’s always a good idea to tell someone else where you’re going and when you expect to return.
Places to Start
If you’re not sure where to start as you explore the Highfields area, then why not take some advice from the Toowoomba Regional Council?
The Council rates the following walks as “easy”:
- Hartmann’s Park circuit (500 metres)
- Lake Cooby (Dam Wall to Loveday Cove, 4.5 km)
- Charles and Motee Rogers Bushland Reserve Nature Trail (30 minute walk from O’Briens Road, Highfields)
Each of these walks takes in some of the beautiful local scenery, so they’re well worth checking out.
