MAKING A SPLASH FOR THE KIDS
GemLife, proud Gold sponsor of Juiced TV’s Paddle for Kids, raised nearly $11,000 for the charity’s dragon boat fundraising event last month, trumping its $6000 target.
GemLife’s staff crew, Dragon Behind, was one of 19 teams making a splash during the event, coming in sixth overall after a day of action-packed heats on Brisbane River. Paddle for Kids received over 1000 donations, raising nearly $118,000 by day’s end. GemLife’s contribution placed us second on the fundraising leader-board – a great effort by staff, family and friends.
Hundreds of people made their way to Southbank to join a fun day of dragon boat racing, celebrity appearances by players from the Broncos, Brisbane Heat and the Brisbane Bandits, arts and crafts, music, kids workshops and activities.
Paddle for Kids is an annual kids festival and dragon boat race day held in Southbank to fund Juiced TV’s distraction therapy initiative for sick kids in children’s hospitals across Queensland. Juiced TV helps kids in hospital create their own program segments for other sick kids, thereby helping them learn new skills and distracting them from their often long and difficult time in medical care.
