Pacific Paradise couple Heather and Frank Hohmann are quickly notching up somewhat of a new record when it comes to hiring the new Explore by GemLife motorhomes.
The intrepid explorers have already taken it out three times, have booked it for a trip to Wodonga in Victoria to attend a wedding this month, and are planning another trip for August-September.
Their first trip was just two weeks after the Explore by GemLife motorhomes were launched last year, and that road trip saw them visit Longreach, Roma, and Charleville.
This was followed by a trip to Hervey Bay, Agnes Waters and Bundaberg and then, in February, the couple returned from a trip to Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay and Fingal Head.
The Hohmanns have a goal to visit and have a cuppa at every little beach from Northern NSW to Cairns.
As a former history teacher, Frank is especially interested in the history of towns and attractions such as the Qantas Museum and Stockman’s Hall of Fame at Longreach.
“I just love the history of the outback, the hardship of people who worked the land, how hard it was to establish cattle stations and how unforgiving the land can be. It is all so interesting,” he said.
Until the Covid-19 pandemic hit, the couple had been frequent air travellers.
“Our daughter has lived in London for almost 15 years, so we made the effort to go over and see them and our grandchildren regularly. As far as road travel, we haven’t really done much of that since we travelled around in a Kombi camper back in the 1970s,” said Frank.
Both were delighted when the resort’s new Explore by GemLife motorhome was launched.
“We thought ‘what a beauty’! We didn’t want a caravan. The motorhome was perfect for us. It didn’t require any capital outlay, just a low daily hire fee that included insurance. Fabulous!”
So far Frank and Heather’s trips have been under two weeks.
“We decided to take it for a short time to find out how it works and get comfortable with it before heading out for a longer period,” said Heather who can’t speak highly enough about its many features.
“Oh my gosh, it is so wonderful. The motorhome has all the modern technology plus a shower and toilet. We studied the manual, which was great, and watched the video to make sure we knew how to use everything like the fridge, television, the bed that moves in and out, the annexe, which is push button, and all the other little gadgets.”
When pulling into a camping ground at Longreach, the couple came upon another Explore by GemLife motorhome being driven by David and Jane Hayter, of GemLife Bribie Island, and the couples have since struck up a great friendship.
Why do Heather and Frank keep hiring out the Explore by GemLife motorhome?
“It’s fantastic, exactly what we wanted at this stage of our lives, financially and convenience-wise. We just give it back each time and don’t have to worry about storage. It is ideal for anyone who loves the outdoors like we do, and such value for money. We can’t wait for our next trip.”
