Award win spotlights GemLife’s solar sustainability

GEMLIFE’S COMMITMENT TO RENEWABLE ENERGY WAS RECOGNISED LAST MONTH AT THE PROPERTY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA’S NATIONAL RETIREMENT LIVING AWARDS.
GemLife’s industry-leading Virtual Power Plant (VPP) initiative won the RACV Solar Award for Sustainability in Retirement Living at a gala event hosted by the Property Council of Australia at The Star on the Gold Coast.
The Property Council of Australia’s National Retirement Living Awards is the industry’s most coveted and prestigious awards program that celebrates excellence across all parts of the nation’s retirement living sector.
GemLife Director and CEO Adrian Puljich said to be recognised on the national stage was a significant honour.
“We’re delighted by the win,” said Adrian. “The Virtual Power Plant, which we unveiled just over a year ago, is the culmination of several years of hard work and problem solving to develop a system that we can roll out across all of our resorts.”
“GemLife worked closely with the team at Prospecta Utilities’ to develop a fully customised renewable energy solution for our land lease communities, a system designed to offer our homeowners more affordable power and shield them from the volatile energy market and rising prices.”
The VPP started as a pilot program at GemLife Palmwoods before being implemented in its current form at GemLife Maroochy Quays.
GemLife Bribie Island now has the VPP installed, and work is underway at other resorts including the under-construction GemLife Moreton Bay and GemLife Gold Coast.
The VPP will be the first of many innovations that GemLife is implementing. Last month, in an Australian first, installation of 5G millimeter wave technology began at GemLife Gold Coast. The tech, also designed by Prospecta Utilities, will provide high-speed wireless internet access for all homeowners and much more.
Prospecta Utilities’ CEO Mark Langdon said GemLife was leading the way in developing and implementing new technology across its communities.
“It’s a privilege to be helping a forward-thinking developer like GemLife in innovating in its sector,” said Mark.
“Through the company’s commitment to innovation, they are not only meeting and exceeding sustainability goals, but providing real benefits for their homeowners today with cheaper electricity. The Prospecta team is proud to be part of this commendable achievement.”
