Energetic and adventurous, with an inexhaustible lust for life, GemLife Highfields resident Jean Rothery has been living life to the fullest, enthusiastically trying something new each week.
“Living at GemLife is like living on a cruise ship. There’s a full calendar of events and activities every week,” said Jean.
“There are so many things that I still haven’t gotten around to trying yet that I would like to.”
Jean has been keeping a busy schedule since moving into the resort in February, with morning bike rides followed by classes in the country club.
“Monday I do ‘steady steps’, Wednesday it’s water aerobics, Thursday is Tai Chi and on Friday afternoons we watch a movie in the cinema. I also help out at the bar sometimes and I like taking day trips on the bus too,” she said.
Jean and her husband John spent years travelling in their caravan and exploring Australia with their mountain bikes in tow before moving to the resort.
“John and I have always been very into sports. He’s just had knee surgery but before that we did a lot of cycling. It made it easy to stay fit while caravaning and is a good way to see sights,” said Jean.
Ready to establish a home base, the Rotherys visited many over-50s’ resorts before choosing GemLife Highfields.
“We looked at many places before coming here. What we really loved about GemLife is the location. It’s so close to everything – we’re just around the corner from the shops, medical services, restaurants – if you don’t want to drive or rely on public transport, you don’t have to. You can just walk or ride your bike,” said Jean.
The enthusiastic cyclists said exploring the Highfields area never gets old.
“It’s such a beautiful area, particularly during spring, and there’s so many trails to explore. It’s also nice and flat which makes things even better.”
Jean and John felt at home in the resort straight away thanks to the friendly atmosphere created by their neighbours and the wider GemLife community.
“The friendliness is wonderful and everyone has been so kind,” said Jean. “If you’re looking for something new to try just come along to drinks on Friday afternoon and have a chat with some of the people and they’ll tell you what clubs they’re in and you can decide what you would like to do.”
